Greetings!

My name is Judy Mickens Murray, and I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Prince George's County Council At Large. 

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my campaign, and I look forward to the opportunity to earn your trust and support. The current state of politics needs to undergo a transformation towards governance that prioritizes unwavering integrity, fosters vibrant communities, and ensures responsible and transparent management of resource allocation. This shift will empower residents through responsible zoning and equitable county funding. I am committed to bringing positive change and working towards a brighter future for Prince George's County. 

As a Candidate, my mission is to bring a fresh approach to politics in Prince George's County, focusing on putting people first. I am committed to leading with integrity and providing accessible, high-quality education to empower individuals from all walks of life. Together, we will create an environment that promotes growth, critical thinking, and innovation. We can inspire positive change by equipping people with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors to overcome challenges, embrace diversity, and impact their communities and beyond.

Why Mickens-Murray

After 30 years of distinguished service with the Federal Government as a Civil Servant, Mrs. Mickens-Muray retired from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in December 2010. She served as Chief of the Personal Property Branch of the Logistic Operations Division and as Administrative Officer to the Chief Administrative Officer of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). 

In 2002, Mrs. Mickens-Murray was appointed to the Prince George's County Board of Education by County Executive Wayne K. Curry and Governor Parris Glendening. Since being appointed, she has made it her focus to provide effective oversight to our public school system. She served as Chair of the Master Plan Committee. A system that provides a long-range action plan to guide the school system in preparing students for successful citizenship in the twenty-first century and is aligned with Federal legislation such as the No Child Left Behind Act, and State mandates such as the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools.

During her 2002 appointment, she spearheaded the development of innovative strategies to engage parents and revitalized the Council of Prince George's County PTAs. Her efforts led to the empowerment and education of a wide range of parents and community members on the intricacies of the political landscape in public education. Exciting stuff!

Guess what happened 19 years later? In 2021, Mrs. Mickens-Murray was appointed again to a 4-year service term on the Prince George's County Hybrid School Board! County Executive Angela Alsobrooks chose her as a board member at large recently ending June 30, 2024, she served on various committees and capacities. She is set to bring her passion and expertise to the forefront as she serves on various committees and capacities.

She contributed to the development of strategies aimed at fostering meaningful parental involvement through her efforts in reinstating the Council of Prince George's County PTAs. Her work involved empowering and educating a diverse group of parents and the community on the political process of public education. Additionally, she was instrumental in the establishment of the Parents Assisting Teachers program, which has since evolved into the current Parent Liaisons initiative within the Prince George’s School System.

Her Beliefs: 

Mrs. Mickens-Murray's vision for Prince George's County citizens is to thrive. She believes that local government plays a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of all individuals in Prince Georges County. From education to senior care, from infrastructure to public services, local councils play a vital role in shaping our communities and ensuring that the needs of residents are met. She believes council members should be elected through a fair and competitive democratic process and should be willing and able to shoulder the responsibility to represent and govern their districts with integrity and transparency to create real opportunities for authentic partnerships. She believes that all Prince Georgians should be allowed to obtain the knowledge and skills and go on to become productive citizens in the workplace and community of the 21st century. She advocates for the rights of all people to continually improve their quality of life, bringing a unique set of strengths and abilities to the task.
